Wind park to be built in Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea

Baku. Nijat Mustafayev – APA-Economics. Today, Baku hosted the presentation of final report on “Project about study of wind energy potential in Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea”, prepared within framework of the INOGATE program of the European Commission.

Delivering speech at the event Head of investment and reconstruction of industrial enterprises department Ramiz Rzayev provided extensive information about the project, spoke of its major directions. He noted that despite the existence of substantial hydrocarbon reserves in Azerbaijan, currently the country pays special attention to the area of alternative and renewable energy sources: “The country already uses alternative energy sources. The development of this sector will increase energy security in the country, at the same time will create conditions for the economy of natural resources”.

Rzayev noted that the wind potential in Azerbaijan, in particular, in Absheron Peninsula is wide: “There are great opportunities and conditions for the construction of solar and hydroelectric power plants here”.

During the event, presentations were also made by foreign experts of the project, Kim Jansen and Jesper Tisen. They noted that the project is planned to create wind parks in the Caspian Sea in future.

Note that, the project, which was launched last year, will be completed next year. The aim of the project is to define the energy potential of the Caspian Sea. The project is funded by the European Commission.
