Tariff proposal for gas transportation on Shahdeniz 2 project to be submitted to consortium by October 1

Baku. Nijat Mustafayev – APA-Economics. The tariff proposal for gas transportation o Shahedeniz 2 project is expected to submit to the consortium by October 1, 2011, BP-Azerbaijan told APA.

Company says exploitation of Shahdeniz 2 in full-scale is a huge project which aims to increase the difference of gas supply and energy sources of European market by delivering the Azerbaijani gas to Europe an Turkey via south gas corridor: “This project is planned to add 16 bcm of gas per year to the first stage, which is approximately 9 bcm of gas, per year. Full-scale exploitation of Shahdeniz project is one of the largest gas exploitation projects of the world and new South Corridor will increase the security of Europe’s gas import”.


According to current plans, full-scale exploitation o Shahedniz 2 project includes two new bridged platforms, 26 submarine wells, 500 km-submarine pipeline network in the depth of 550 m, achievement of additional gas export capacity in amount of 16 bcm via new pipeline and compressor in Azerbaijan and Georgia and extension of Sangachal terminal.

The plans also include delivery of full-scale exploitation gas to Georgia-Turkey border by project, use from either Turkish existing infrastructures or new pipeline infrastructure for transportation of gas to European markets through Turkey.

On August 10, State Oil Company announced that, it sent an invitation and survey to three main pipeline groups of European Union on submitting of their proposals for transportation of Shahdeniz gas to Europe. These groups are ITGI (Turkey, Greece and Italy), TransAdriatic Pipeline (TAP) and Nabucco.

Shahdeniz asked in these documents to evaluate the projects from pipelines groups and submitting the required information to the consortium for passing decision for export solution. Tariff proposal for gas transportation is determined to submit up to October 1, 2011.
