SOCAR vice-president: “We were about to sign transit contract with Turkey in April-May”

Baku. Habilb Suleymanzadeh – APA. “Russia wants to purchase our natural gas, completely. But, we don’t want to depend on one purchaser and that’s why we sell our gas to EU, Iran and Russia”, said the Vice-president of State Oil Company Elshad Nasirov in his interview to Turkish Hurriyet Daily News newspaper.

According to him, the demand for natural gas in the world will increase after Japan disaster and Azerbaijan’s role will be positive. Speaking about Shahdeniz-2 project Nasirov noted that, this project needed near $20-22 bln.

Speaking about interstate contract on Nabucco project signed in Turkey SOCAR official noted that, Azerbaijani side had not received the copy of same contract, so far and none of the countries signed the document had shared the content of the document: “Azerbaijan tries to approach to Nabucco, TAP and ITGI projects objectively”.

He reminded that, Azerbaijani and Turkish sides did not sign yet transit contract yet: “We were about to sign transit contract with Turkey in April-May. But, certain small moments and important factors did not let to complete the works on it. Implementation of TAP and ITGI projects depend on Azerbaijan-Turkey transit contract. There is a little time to find investors for Nabucco. Azerbaijan, has repeatedly applied to European Union to get investment offers. But, we’ve never received any answer from Europe”.
