Baku hosts roundtable on renewable energy sources - <font color=red>PHOTO</font>

Baku. Vahab Rzayev – APA-Economics. Round table ’Climate change and renewable energy sources in Black Sea region’ was today held at Center for Strategic Studies of Azerbaijan. The event focused on climate change, challenges for renewable energy sources and possibilities of mobilizing financial resources for adaptation to climate change.

Delivering speech at the event Gulshan Pashayeva said use of renewable energy sources was very important issue. She noted that conducting of energy sphere, industry with clear and modern principles, as well as development of alternative sources, quickening of greening process, conducting of optimization in production play an important role in elimination of negative impacts on climate change.

Ecology and Natural Resources Minister Huseyn Bagirov spoke about development perspectives and existing state of renewable energy sources in Azerbaijan. The minister noted that at present, only the potential of wind energy makes 2-2,5 thousand MW in Azerbaijan, and it may create a great amount of traditional energy sources. Besides, solar energy, thermal energy, biogas have a wide potential in energy production as alternatives too. Bagirov said that currently, works are being carried out in Azerbaijan on the basis of President’s concept on this sphere. That concept considers wide use of renewable energy sources.

It was noted at the event that, few countries interest in alternative energy due to its expensiveness. Azerbaijan, in turn, intends to get additional incomes and increase the export of energy carriers which saves by development of alternative energy in te country. This will cause to increase of profitability and get te sent expenses back, quickly.

Akim Badalov, head of the State Agency on Alternative and Renewable Energy, noted that there were some problems in this sphere.

According to him, the factor on expensiveness of alternative energy changes to game topic of political and large business circles. Consequently, the interests clash in this sphere and this is one of the main factors impeding the development o that sphere.

Ambassador of Greece to Azerbaijan, Ioannis Metaxas and Zefi Dimadama, Director General of International Centre for Black Sea Round table made speeches and spoke about the problems and perspectives in alternative energy, in the round table.
