Confederation of Turkish Trade Unions meets in Baku

Salih Kilic, chairman of the Confederation of Turkish Trade Unions informing about the historical background said the Confederation set up in 1952 not has 87 representations in 54 countries. The Confederation represents 85 million employees in these countries.
Mr.Kilic drawing attention to close relations with Azerbaijan expressed interest in establishing relations with Turkish-speaking countries.
“Armenia’s occupation of Azerbaijani lands led to 1 million peoples becoming jobless. We, Turkish states should unite our efforts in this field. Our Confederation is prepared to cooperate with related organizations of Azerbaijan regarding this issue,” he stressed.
Settar Mehbaliyev, President of Confederation of Azerbaijan Trade Unions expressed interest in continuation of the relations between the two bodies. He reminded that Confederation of Azerbaijan Trade Unions used the experience of Turkey in forming its legislation after Azerbaijan gained independence.
“Confederation of Azerbaijan Trade Unions has 1.5 million members now. Development of private sector result in establishment of new trade unions,” he stressed.
Head of Socio-Political Department at President’s Office, Ali Hasanov said the two countries have archived progress bilateral relations in many spheres.
“Azerbaijani trade unions and government can learn from Turkey how to protect the rights of Azeri citizens working for transnational companies. The formal character of trade unions characteristic for Soviet time is now eliminated. Today trade unions can take actions to protect or restore rights of an employee in line with legislation,” Mr.Hasanov said. /APA/
