A commemorative event was held in the Honor Alley on the 7th death anniversary of ex-president Abulfez Elchibey. The deceased Elchibey’s relatives, family members, heads of public organizations and political parties participated in the event. The commemoration started with state anthem and they spoke about Elchibey’s struggle for the independence of Azerbaijan, difficulties he faced during this period. His relatives said that the commemorative event will be continued in Elchibey’s house.
Abulfez Elchibey was born in 1938 in Kalaki village of Ordubad region, Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (AR). He was one of the founders of Azerbaijani Popular Front in 1989 and was elected chairman.
Elchibey was elected Azerbaijani President in 1992. He left state power in 1993. He died on August 22, 2000. /APA/
