The speaker of Azerbaijani Parliament Ogtay Asadov today received Israeli Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Strategic Affairs Avigdor Lieberman, Parliament told the APA.
The speaker said that the two countries have great potential for expanding economic-trade relations.
Mr. Asadov said that anti-Semitism never existed in Azerbaijan and 5 Jewish synagogues function in the country and Jews feel themselves in Azerbaijan as in their native land. The speaker also said that oil-gas and transport projects initiated by Azerbaijan give impetus on the development of the region.
“Azerbaijan contributed to energy security of Europe by commissioning Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipelines,†he said.
Mr. Asadov expressed his gratitude to Israeli nation for supporting territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan.
The guest said that his country not only supports Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity, but Jewish lobby functioning in the world supports Azerbaijan’s position in influential international organizations. /APA/
