Russian Foreign Ministry sent a note to Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry through Azerbaijani Embassy in Russia for prolonging the term of the contract on broadcasting ORT and RTR in Azerbaijan, Russian embassy in Azerbaijan told the APA. The note proposes to prolong the period of warning agreement to Russia, unless an agreement is reached on broadcasting Russian TV channels in Azerbaijan Azerbaijani TV channel in Russia.
The member of the working group set up for negotiating over broadcasting Russian channel in Azerbaijan and AzTV in Russia Gafar Jabiyev told the APA that National Television and Radio Council is unaware of this.
“This issue was not discussed. The two countries debated on broadcasting one of Russian TV channels in Azerbaijan and AzTV in Russia,” he said.
National Television and Radio Council passed a decision on closing ORT as from July 11. Though a decision was made on RTR-Planeta’s broadcasting for a month the channel will possibly be closed if Russia does not arrange broadcasting of Azeri channel in Russia. /APA/
