Ambassador Anne Derse: The U.S. supports political and economic reforms in Azerbaijan
U.S. ambassador to Azerbaijan Anne E. Derse said that there is multilateral and strategic partnership between the US and Azerbaijan.
“Like the US, Azerbaijan has made a right choice for independence, and we believe that this choice will ensure independent, peaceful and progressive future of Azerbaijan. The US supports political and economic reforms carried out in Azerbaijan. The US will continue to support its friend and strategic partner Azerbaijan in ensuring of security, strengthening of independence and development of economy. We are grateful to Azerbaijan for its active role in ensuring global security and fighting against terrorism,†the Ambassador underlined.
Speaker of Azerbaijani Parliament Ogtay Asadov congratulated the participants of the official reception on behalf of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and wished the American people peace and prosperity.
“The US was one the first states to recognize Azerbaijan’s independence, mutual relations have deepened. The relations between our countries have elevated to a new stage after President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to the US in 2006,†he said.
Ogtay Asadov spoke about the cooperation in the framework of fighting against global terrorism and said that Azerbaijani peacekeepers, along with servicemen of NATO member states contributed to peace and security in Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq. Underlining that Azerbaijan is successfully cooperating with the US in the framework of international organizations Ogtay Asadov noted that the US supports Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and as OSCE Minsk Group co-chair is making efforts for the solution of Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict.
The official reception brought together vice-speakers, parliamentarians, foreign ambassadors, chiefs of media outlets and public representatives. /APA/
