The US and Russian Presidents discussed the joint use of Russia-rented Gabala radar station in Azerbaijan. APA’s US bureau reports the Presidents briefed journalists that the issue on use of the early warning system in Gabala remains the topic of discussion. Putin said Russia’s radar proposal to the US is still effective.
“However, the joint operation is possible in Russia-NATO format. We offer the center’s Data Exchange Center base in Moscow. The center can operate in internal network and live regime. We can modernize the radar system in Gabala if needed. If it is not satisfactory, we can offer additional new station in southern Russia for missile defense,” Russian President underlined.
President Bush said this proposal will be discussed at the level of top officials, “But, any new offers will be considered within the framework of the missile shields intended to be deployed in Czechia and Poland.” /APA/
