President Ilham Aliyev: Revolution attempt in Azerbaijan in 2005 met decisive reaction by the state and people
“Some external forces were also involved in the process. Tense situation and overthrow in Azerbaijan were debated at that time. We were aware of their plans then and now,†he underlined.
President Aliyev said that situation is under control in Azerbaijan.
“We are aware of everything. State and people decisively reacted to the forces trying to start revolution in the country. The support of the people for the authorities frustrated the plans of forces trying to stage a coup, unpleasant developments were prevented. If their plans had succeeded, it is difficult to imagine what would have happened to Azerbaijan. In the countries facing coup, there is domestic conflict, no economic growth, we can not speak of the development. The situation in Azerbaijan is different. Our economy is developing, we play a great role in regional plane, economic projects are being implemented. If coup d’etat plan had succeeded, no one could have invested in Azerbaijani economy. The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil and Baku-Tbilisi-Arzurum gas pipelines would not have been constructed. We had not been able to provide Europe, even ourselves with gas,†he said.
Azerbaijani President stressed that the police play a important role in preventing illegal actions in the country.
“Police demonstrated great determination and courage at that time. I remember several foreign organizations pressured on us so that police officials be punished and detained for rudeness. But I rejected all these demands grounding they have always performed their official duty and stood for defense of the state and laws. I support Azerbaijani police today as well,†the head of state concluded. /APA/
