Foreign and local journalists visit Gabala radar station
He said that there is hospital, kindergarten and secondary school in 2600ha area.
“According to the agreement, special personnel are not to exceed 1500. About 1000 servicemen work here. All of them are Russian citizens. Azerbaijani servicemen working here are also Russian citizens. Reports about Armenians of Russian citizenship work here are false,†he said.
Yakushin said that according to the bilateral agreement, Azerbaijan rented the early warning system to Russia for a 10-year term.
Russia is to pay $7mln. for Daryal Analytical-Information Center to Azerbaijan ($70mln. for 10 years). Besides, Russia is to pay $31mln. to Azerbaijan for using this facility in 1997-2002. The payment is realized twice a year – in July and December. Authoritative representatives have been appointed by the governments of the two countries to solve the problems immediately.
Yakushin underlined that conductive installations have been established in 800 meters of Gabala radar station.
“3 great facilities have been established here: Radio-technical Center, Admission Center and Energy-Mechanical Center.
“Daryal†Analytical Information Center implements continuous control in space, defines the parameters of the missiles, and informs proper places about it. “Daryal†reported that 150 “Scad†launched missile during Iran-Iraq war. If there is a definite military-political decision, station can be modernized,†he said.
Yakushin refused to answer the question regarding the potential of the facility, as well as “Can Gabala radar station prevent launching missile?â€.
The general said that 3-5-year agreement is concluded with the soldiers serving in Gabala radar station. Their salaries are more than the salaries of soldiers serving in the military units of Russia. A month service here is regarded 1,5 months seniority. The soldiers are passing medical examination twice a year.
Alexander Yakushin said ecologists’ concerns over negative impact of Gabala radar station are groundless. “This facility is not fuelled by nuclear energy but electric energy. Regular monitoring is held here and there are no cases of impact of Gabala radar station on environmentâ€.
However, local people told journalists Gabala radar station is working in full power on Tuesdays and Fridays. “That is why, we feel ourselves bad that days, eye-seeing and nutrition problems emergeâ€. APA/
