Azeri rights defenders leave Strasbourg

The members of Monitoring Group of Human Rights Organizations-Novella Jafaroglu, Seadat Bananyarli, Saida Gojamanli and Arzu Abdullayeva ended their visit to Strasbourg, France, Jafaroglu told the APA.
They met Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe (PACE) President Rene Van der Linden, members of Ago Monitoring Group, head of PACE subcommittee on Nagorny Karabakh Lord Russel-Johnston, co-rapporteur Leo Platvoet, CE Venice Commission Secretary Giovanni Buquicchio and others in the framework of the visit.
Rights defender said that they debated on the commitments of Azerbaijan at CE, condition of human rights, freedom of expression in the country, Nagorno Karabakh conflict during PACE June session.
“We underlined in those meetings that despite positive measures in Azerbaijan, the condition of human rights, freedom of expression is tense in the country. We stated that Azerbaijan should fulfill CE commitments, imprisoned journalists, political prisoners should be released, and problems on freedom of peaceful assembly should be solved,” she said.
She said that rights defenders presented the list of 53 political prisoners to the CE senior officials. /APA/
