Ms.Pashayeva asked what measures CE is going to take regarding Armenia for preventing illegal elections negatively impacting on the peace condition planned in the region. Committee of Ministers (CM) said the following:
“The committee’s opinion on this issue is unchangeable. Both countries took commitments vis-à-vis the CE on the solution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. Cabinet of Ministers welcomed these commitments and hope that negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia will be established soon in the framework of OSCE Minsk Group. It is important for Azerbaijan and Armenia and for the stability in the South Caucasus.
Like previous referendum unrecognized by international community, these “presidential elections” will not be able to form basis for the settlement of the conflict and expose the process of negotiations to risk,” she said.
Ganira Pashayeva asked what the Committee of Ministers can offer to help the solution to the Nagorno Karabakh. The Committee of Ministers answered:
“We regret that Aliyev-Kocharian negotiations in St. Petersburg did not give desired results. We hope that the negotiations will continue and agreement will be reached on the core principles of the settlement of the conflict. The Council of Europe is always ready to create necessary conditions for such an agreement and to support establishing confidence and relations between the two countries,” they said. /APA/
