A group of individuals lowered the Turkish flag at the border in the Nusaybin district of Mardin province. The incident occurred after a protest against the situation on the Syrian side, APA reports.

The DEM Party held its weekly group meeting this week in the city of Nusaybin instead of at the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye.

After the meeting, a group carrying flags of the PKK terrorist organization began marching toward the border. They lowered the Turkish flag at the border.

During the incident, some participants also attacked the Turkish flag on the other side of the border and chanted slogans in support of the YPG terrorist organization.

Border guards fired warning shots into the air and demanded that the provocateurs leave the area.

According to reports, the group then withdrew from the scene.

DEM Party spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan stated in a message posted on her X account that the lowering of the Turkish flag at the Nusaybin–Qamishli border had “deeply disturbed” them.

Head of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye’s Communications Directorate Burhanettin Duran strongly condemned the incident, describing it as a “provocation.” He said that any threat directed against national security and the sacred values of the state would be resolutely prevented, adding that the relevant authorities had immediately launched an investigation and that legal and administrative measures would be taken.
