Syrian leader visits US for first time in 58 years

Syria's interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa has arrived in Washington to attend the 80th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), APA reports, citing Syria TV.

This is the first official visit to the United States by a Syrian president since 1967.

Al-Sharaa is reportedly accompanied by four ministers. The visit is expected to provide an opportunity to discuss the restoration of diplomatic relations between Syria and the United States, including the official opening of the Syrian embassy in Washington.
