"The Iranian people must take to the streets to express their disagreement with the unrest," said Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian, broadcast by Al Mayadeen TV channel, APA reports.

The Iranian president said in a televised address to the nation: "We call on the Iranian people to take to the streets, express their position, and not allow the riots to distort their demands," the president said. He stressed that "Iranian society does not accept those who burn mosques."

Pezeshkian expressed condolences over the deaths of civilians and warned young people against terrorism and participating in riots. "We officially recognize peaceful protests and consider dialogue with protesters as our duty. We are ready to meet with all protesting parties throughout the country," he added.

It should be noted that on December 29, 2025, traders began protests in Tehran against the sharp depreciation of the rial. On December 30, students also joined the protests. The riots spread to most major cities in the country. On January 2, 2026, unknown armed groups appeared on the streets, and the number of clashes with law enforcement agencies increased. The Iranian authorities called the rioters terrorists and blamed Israel and the United States for organizing the events.
