ICDO Secretary-General of paid official visit to Malaysia

The Secretary-General of the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO), Mr. Arguj Kalantarli, paid an official visit to Malaysia, the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO) told APA.

Within the framework of his official visit to Malaysia, the Secretary-General of the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO), Mr. Arguj Kalantarli, held meetings with the Prime Minister of Malaysia, H.E. Mr. Anwar bin Ibrahim, as well as the Chief Commissioner of the Malaysia Civil Defence Force, Mr. Mohammad Abiddin bin Abd Rahman.

During the meetings, an extensive exchange of views was held on issues of mutual interest, and the importance of strengthening cooperation between the ICDO and Malaysia in the fields of civil protection, disaster risk reduction, emergency preparedness, and response measures was emphasized.

At the meetings, Malaysia’s practical capabilities and extensive experience in the field of civil protection and emergency management were particularly noted, and it was stated that the country is an important and reliable partner for the ICDO.

The parties also discussed the ICDO’s current priorities and activities carried out within the framework of its humanitarian mandate, including ongoing institutional reforms, modernization efforts, and active humanitarian initiatives, aimed at strengthening the Organization’s operational effectiveness and its capacity to support Member States.

In this context, the Secretary-General expressed his appreciation for Malaysia’s openness to considering the hosting of future sessions of the ICDO General Assembly and Executive Council, as part of efforts to further strengthen engagement with the Organization and promote wider regional participation. The meeting also underscored the mutual interest of both sides in further strengthening professional dialogue and advancing practical cooperation. The discussions also reaffirmed both sides’ shared commitment to expanding institutional engagement and advancing practical cooperation, with a view to further developing ICDO–Malaysia relations in a positive, constructive, and forward-looking manner.
