South Korea’s special prosecutor has demanded that former President Yoon Suk Yeol be sentenced to 10 years in prison at the Seoul Central District Court, APA reports, citing Yonhap news agency.

According to the information, a total of four criminal cases have been opened against Yoon Suk Yeol. These cases are related to an attempt to impose martial law in the country on December 3, 2024.

The verdict in this case is expected to be announced on January 16, two days before the expiration of the former president’s detention period.

Recall that in December 2024, Yoon Suk Yeol was accused of attempting to declare martial law in the country. Parliament regarded this move as an attempted coup and initiated impeachment proceedings against him.

Note that in the snap presidential election held in South Korea in June this year, Lee Jae-myung, the candidate of the opposition Democratic Party, won.
