Beijing has urged US President Donald Trump not to use the fictitious "China threat" as a pretext for personal interests in the Greenland issue, said the official representative of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Guo Jiakun, APA reports.
According to him, Trump claims that wherever US interests appear, he supposedly sees a threat from Russia and China.
"We have repeatedly made our position on the Greenland issue clear. International law based on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter is the foundation of the existing international order and must be protected. We call on the US side to stop using the fictitious "China threat" as a pretext for personal interests," Guo Jiakun said.
Note that Donald Trump declares that only the US can defend Greenland from Russia and China.
