Baku-APA. Nigeria's road commission said Wednesday that eight people died in a road accident on the Lokoja- Abuja road in central north Kogi state, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
State commander for the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Godwin Omiko, told reporters in Lokoja, the state capital, that the accident involved a white Toyota passenger bus and a truck.
He said the dead victims included the driver and seven other occupants of the bus, and blamed the accident on human error.
Omiko said a passenger was fatally wounded in the accident, adding that the corpses and the injured were taken to the Federal Medical Center in Lokoja.
According to him, investigation into the accident was underway.
Road accidents take place frequently in Nigeria due to reckless driving, bad road conditions and over packing. More than 1,000 are killed on the road each year in the country.
