Baku. Victoria Dementyeva – APA. “If we want to achieve peace in the region, Armenia must put an end to the policy of occupation. The current policy of Armenia poses a threat to the situation in region and it seems that Armenia is doing everything to keep the status quo,” spokesman for Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry Elman Abdullayev told journalists, APA reports. He said that Azerbaijan has repeatedly proposed a roadmap to resolve the conflict: “Unfortunately, Armenia rejects all proposals of Azerbaijan, even the updated Madrid principles. For this reason, no progress has been achieved at the meetings of the presidents of the two countries since 2009. From the very first, Azerbaijan familiarized itself with the Madrid principles and adopted it as the basic document for the settlement of the conflict. We support the continuation of the work on the updated Madrid principles.”
Noting that the conflict remains unsolved for years, Elman Abdullayev considers that OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs should exert pressure on Armenia so that that this country demonstrates constructive position.
Commenting on the joint statement issued by the presidents of the US, Russia and France, spokesman regarded it as a comprehensive statement.
“We have always said that Azerbaijan’s position coincides with the position of the co-chairing states. We have repeatedly stated that the status quo is inadmissible and should be changed. This is also reflected in the statements issued by the co-chairing states in the past four years,” he said.
