It has been 34 years since the helicopter carrying Azerbaijan’s political elite was shot down by Armenian armed forces, APA reports.
On November 20, 1991, a MI-8 military helicopter was downed over the village of Garakend in the Khojavend district. All 22 people on board were killed, including state officials, government representatives, members of parliament, journalists, and crew members.
Initially, it was suggested that the helicopter had crashed due to fog, but it was later confirmed that it had been shot down by Armenian forces.
The attack remains one of the deadliest acts against Azerbaijani state officials in recent history.
