Baku – APA. Fabio Capello is ’the best man’ to manage England’s disgraced football team, the FA has announced, as it said it had no intention of sacking him, APA reports quoting dailymail.co.uk web-page.
The Club England board agreed ’unanimously’ today that he should continue despite the team’s shambolic World Cup campaign, which culminated in a 4-1 second round loss to Germany.
Capello said he would return to work ’more determined than ever to succeed with the England team’.
’Sir Dave Richards has called me to tell me everyone at The FA wants me to continue,’ he said. ’I explained it is very important we use the disappointment as a motivation in the future.
’I can assure the fans I am now fully focused on our European qualifying fixtures, starting with the friendly against Hungary in August.’
He vowed to put a broom through the aging team, announcing a plan to ’introduce new players to give the team new energy’.
The decision was announced after a meeting of Club England board members Sir Dave Richards, Alex Horne, Sir Trevor Brooking and Adrian Bevington.
The four men reviewed England’s World Cup performance and agreed unanimously that Capello should continue managing the side.
Sir Dave Richards said: ’We are all still extremely disappointed at our performance in South Africa, and we believed it was important that we took some time to reflect on everything in a calm and considered manner back in England.
’After fully discussing our performance we remain convinced that Fabio is the best man for the job.
’He went into the World Cup with a reputation as one of world football’s finest managers and we are confident Fabio will benefit from his first international tournament experience and this will undoubtedly make us all stronger for the Euro 2012 campaign.’
Capello signed a new two-year contract shortly before the side flew to South Africa last month, where England was expected to comfortably top its group, but could beat only Slovenia, recording draws with the U.S. and Algeria to finish second.
FA Board Acting Chairman Roger Burden said: ’The FA Board supports this decision. It is the right decision and will allow us now to rebuild for the future with Fabio leading us forward.’
