SOCAR Turkey Enerji A. Åž (STEAÅž) says the port will initially receive 1.5 mln containers in a year. Thereafter, it will be able to receive 4 mln containers.
The contract was signed SOCAR-Turkey’s head and Petkim Board Chairman Kenan Yavuz and SOCAR-Turkey’s Vice-President Samir Karimli (on behalf of Petkim) and APM Terminals Sales Director Theo Dersigni (on behalf of APM Terminals).
The construction of container port will cost $300 mln and its first stage will be completed in 2015, second stage – in 2016.
The Terminal will be managed by APM Terminals for 28 years. The port will be the greatest port in Marmara, Aegean and White Sea regions with the capacity of 11,000 containers. Besides it will be biggest port integrated with railway and motor roads in Turkey.
Consequently, the Turkish businessmen will be able to bring their goods to Turkey without any time loss in Pirie and Alexandria ports and take from here. Transportation costs will be reduced.
Capacity of this container port, which is one of main parts of "Refinery-Petrochemistry-Energy-Logistics Integration" project implemented by SOCAR-Turkey on the Petkim Peninsula, will be 50% more than Alsancak port. 48 hectares have been allotted for the needs of the port. Of this, 42 ha are for container, 6 ha – for service area.
