Hungary purchased gas from Azerbaijan and Türkiye for the first time this year, Hungarian FM says

Hungary continues its work on diversifying its supply to reduce its dependence on Russian gas, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations of Hungary Peter Szijártó said during his speech at the Baku Energy Forum held as part of Baku Energy Week, APA-Economics reports.

According to him, the country's annual gas consumption is 9-10 billion cubic meters, and Hungary produces only 1.5 billion cubic meters of it. To reduce dependence on Russian gas, work has been and is being carried out to purchase gas from Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and Qatar.

The minister also noted that Hungary purchased gas from Azerbaijan and Türkiye for the first time this year.

Peter Szijártó added that negotiations are still ongoing in Qatar and that an agreement in this area will be reached soon.
