“The European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union are incompatible, and the arrival of non-regional players to Armenia "will have consequences",” said Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Alexei Overchuk, during his speech at the X international scientific-expert forum "Primakov readings", APA reports citing Sputnik-Armenia.

According to him, the political vector of Armenia is increasingly leaning towards the West.

“There is a famous half-joke made by Nikol Vovaevich in one of his interviews that Pashinyan said "this year" as an answer when he was asked what date he would choose to join EU if he had the opportunity to choose to join it. There are also discussions about holding a referendum on EU membership," Overchuk recalled.

He also drew attention to certain dissatisfactions against Russia in the Armenian society.

“At least there is such an opinion and it should be understood. But it is also necessary to understand that the EU and the EEU are not compatible with each other. Any country's benefits from its closeness with Russia are the price our country pays for security and strategic depth. Therefore, the arrival of some foreign players in the region will have consequences. We are not in the business of giving gifts here. Of course, we are interested in a stable Armenia, good trade relations, and good fraternal relations," Overchuk said.
