Japan’s former Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi to retire from politics

Tokyo –APA. Japan’s former Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi said he will not run in the next general election for the House of Representatives and will retire from politics. "I looked back on my 36-year political career and concluded that I’ve done everything I wanted to do. I feel a sense of accomplishment," Koizumi told his support group during a meeting in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture, on Thursday. "I’ll continue some political activities, but not as a legislator". The former Prime Minister said he wouldn’t run in the November elections. He said he wanted his son, 27-year-old Shinjiro, to run in the general election as his successor.
