The delegation led by Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Mazen Torki Al-Qadi, currently in our country on an official visit, arrived at the Milli Majlis on 22 June, the Press and Public Relations Department of the Milli Majlis told APA. Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova welcomed the guests.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives acquainted himself with the plenary chamber of the Milli Majlis first. On coming to the memorial hall named in honour of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev, the guests examined the place’s exhibits reflective of various periods of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev’s life and political activities.
Speaker of the House of Representatives Mazen Torki Al-Qadi left a heartfelt note in the Memorial Book installed there.
The parties had a meeting in an expanded format then.
The Speaker of the Milli Majlis mentioned the discussion of a number of important issues at the guests’ meeting with President Ilham Aliyev held yesterday. The Speaker remarked that the present-day successes of Azerbaijan were pursuant to the successful internal and external policies of President Ilham Aliyev.
The Speaker of the Milli Majlis emphasised that the bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Jordan as friendly and fraternal countries had achieved a high level; she added that the reciprocal visits and meetings of the Heads of State play a substantial role in this.
The gratifying co-operation and mutual support of our countries in the UN, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and the Non-Aligned Movement as well as in other organisations were broached as well.
The Speaker recalled her meeting with the guest on the margins of the first conference of Speakers of Parliament of Member States of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean in Montenegro last month and lauded the current standards of the inter-parliamentary ties between our countries, also stressing the roles of mutual visits as well as of the efforts of the parliamentary friendship groups in deepening those ties. She expressed contentment with the Jordanian Parliament’s active involvement in the work of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network established on the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev.

As he pointed out while sharing his impressions of yesterday’s meeting with President Ilham Aliyev, the two countries’ relations were progressing by virtue of the endeavours and initiatives of our Heads of State.
The guest described the 20th session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Member States as an important platform to discuss pertinent matters whilst he was talking about the significance of the event that is taking place in Baku currently.
As the conversation continued, the Speaker of the House of Representatives stated his views as to issues of the progress of inter-parliamentary ties, exchange of legislative experience, promotion of investments, humanitarian co-operation, and the work done in youth affairs and concerning other subjects. He stressed that this visit as well as the meeting with the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament provided a sound opportunity to expand the relations between the Parliaments further.
The two sides also addressed co-operation opportunities for parliamentary committees and friendship groups. In particular, they underlined the importance of keeping up the mutual support in international parliamentary organisations.
There was at the meeting also an exchange of opinions about other matters of shared interest.
