Pakistani parliament accepts Pervez Musharraf’s resignation

Islamabad – APA. Pakistan’s parliament has accepted President Pervez Musharraf’s resignation. APA reports that the chairman of the Senate, Muhammad Mian Soomro was named acting president.
Pervez Musharraf announced his resignation on live television. He said he left his future in the hands of the nation and people. Analysts consider that by resigning voluntarily he avoided impeachment. Pakistan’s media writes that Pervez Musharraf resigned in exchange for the guarantee of his security.
Pakistan Peoples Party led by the late Benazir Bhutto and Pakistan Muslim League led by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif began impeachment proceedings against President Pervez Musharraf. Nawaz Sharif announced he would not allow the president to leave his post calmly.
