Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev on Tuesday approved a constitutional amendment that waives presidential term limits and allows him to seek the top post indefinitely, APA reports.
Nursultan Nazarbayev was re-elected with 91 percent of the vote in the 2005 election, was constitutionally barred from seeking a new term in 2012.
Last Wednesday, the 66-year old leader proposed a set of reforms that include shortening the presidential term from seven to five years — a change that would take effect after his current term expires — and strengthening parliament’s powers. /APA/
