US Congress recognizes 1932-1933 famine in Ukraine as genocide

Washington –APA. US Congress recognized disastrous famine (“Holodomor”) in Ukraine took place in 1932-1933 as a genocide committed against the Ukrainian people. The US Commission on Ukrainian “Holodomor” established in 1985 concluded that the famine was committed against the Ukrainian people deliberately, said in the resolution adopted by the House of Representatives. “Soviet dictator Stalin ordered to close borders to starve the people to death and to prevent international aid to them”. The Congress condemned Soviet power for this crime and demanded to spread truth about the tragedy over the world.
Ukraine achieved including the “Holodomor” recognition in the UN General Assembly’s agenda. It is proposed in the draft resolution to remember victims of the famine committed by the totalitarian regime against the millions of Ukrainians, Russians, Kazakhs and other peoples. Russia announced it was against the resolution.
