Both the Democratic and the Republican voters will go to the polls in 19 states. In three states, only Democrats will vote, and in two other states only Republicans will do so. California, New York, New Jersey, and Illinois are the key states in the Super Tuesday Primaries.
Starting on Tuesday, the focus will be on the delegate count. A total of 158 delegates are at stake for Obama and 232 for Clinton in Tuesday’s races and 2,025 delegates are needed to win the Democratic nomination.
In the Republican race, there are 1,023 delegates at stake in primaries in 15 states, caucuses in five and the West Virginia state convention.
A candidate needs 1,191 delegates to secure the nomination. Unwilling to leave anything to chance, both men hastily rearranged their schedules to make one more late stop in California, the largest prize with 170 delegates. The latest Realclearpolitics.com average of national polls shows Senator McCain towering over former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney by 19 points – 43 percent to 24 percent, with former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee at 18 percent and Rep. Ron Paul of Texas at 6./APA/
