U.S. President George Bush has nominated US Army General David McKiernan as commander of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan, APA reports. ISAF has 42,000 servicemen at present. 26,000 of them are US soldiers.
Defence Secretary Robert Gates had issued an executive order on deploying additional 3,200 Marines to Afghanistan. /APA/
