Congressman Paul Gillmor discovered dead in his home

Republican Paul Eugene Gillmor, US Representative for the 5th Congressional District of Ohio was found dead today at his residence in Washington DC. No word is yet available as to the cause of the 68-year-oldâ€™s death. He is survived by his wife Karen and five children. Gillmor was born in 1939 in Tiffin, Ohio. His successor will be chosen by special election.
Gillmorâ€™s district includes Bowling Green and Toledoâ€™s suburbs including Fremont. Gillmor was ranking Republican on the Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit Subcommittee of the Financial Services Committee of the US House of Representatives, and also served on the Energy and Commerce Committee the Republicans lost control of Congress in 2007. He was a member of the Republican Main Street Partnership. Gillmor was a graduate of the law school of the University of Michigan and served in the US Air force in the judge advocate corps.
Gillmor and relatives own an eight-branch local bank, Old Fort Bank. His 2006 financial disclosure showed his assets being worth between $6.2 and $27.8 million. He was one of the richest members of Congress. /APA/
