Karl Rove, the most influential White House aide in recent history, has resigned as chief adviser to President George W Bush amid vilification from Democrats and defiant tributes from an increasingly embattled administration, APA’s US bureau reports.
His departure, described by Mr Bush in time-honoured fashion as part of a desire to "spend more time" with his wife and son, is a major boost for Democrats and leaves the president isolated. Mr Rove is the latest and most significant name on the list of his long-time Texas aides to depart. /APA/
Vice President Dick Cheney’s chief of staff, I. Lewis Libby has also resigned recently amid scandal. /APA/
