Baku – APA. Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Spokesman Elman Abdullayev has issued a statement regarding the resolution on human rights in Azerbaijan adopted by the European Parliament on September 18.

The statement says the resolution on human rights in Azerbaijan adopted by the European Parliament is absolutely groundless and biased, APA reports.

“Azerbaijan has fully ensured law supremacy, protection of human rights, freedom of expression and peaceful assembly and judicial independence. No one is persecuted or arrested for their political views and activities. In Azerbaijan, too, like in any other society in which law supremacy is ensured, no one is above the law. This biased resolution is only aimed at exerting political pressure on Azerbaijan”, says the statement.

The statement regards the emergence of such a resolution on the eve the groundbreaking ceremony of the Trans-Anatolia Project and the South Gas Corridor Extension to be held on September 20 in Baku as an attempt to undermine the success of the project that will contribute to the further development of relations between the European Union and Azerbaijan and the strengthening of the EU’s energy security under the pretext of human rights.

“This resolution arising from purposeful political order and double standards against Azerbaijan proves the existence of forces within the European Parliament acting contrary to the fundamental interests of the European Union itself. Introducing themselves as heralds of human rights and democracy, such forces’ ignoring the violation of more than one million Azerbaijani refugees and internally displaced persons who have been deprived of their rights demonstrates their real intention and means that they serve for double standards”.
