Washington-APA. A record number of Americans have cast their ballots in pivotal US states ahead of Tuesday’s election, with surveys suggesting many of the early voters backed Democrat Barack Obama. About 28.9 million people have already voted in states across the country.
The figures shattered records in several crucial states -- including Georgia, Iowa and North Carolina -- and were likely to set a new record for the country as a whole compared to the last presidential election four years ago. Numbers of electors have been increased by 2.5 % over the past four years. Majority of those, who attended the elections, voted in favor of Democrat Obama.
Voting ended in Dixville Notch and another New Hampshire town, Hart’s Location. 15 of 21 electors voted for Obama in Dixville Notch and 6 voted for his rival McCain.
Ballots have been shared like 17-10 between Obama and McCain in Hart’s Location. Two electors voted for Ron Paul.
