New York-APA. A 31-year-old New Yorker has given birth to sextuplets, local media reported on Monday.
Digna Carpio, who already has a 7-year-old son, delivered the four boys and two girls in Manhattan’s Mount Sinai Medical Center on October 6, but kept the fact from the media to make sure the children all lived.
"I’ve watched each of my babies fight so hard to survive," the New York Daily News quoted Carpio as saying.
The babies, who have not been given names yet and are only identified as A, B, C, D, E and F, weighed less than 1 kg (2.2 lbs) when they were born.
"The doctors couldn’t believe how much they weighed," said father Victor Carpio, 36.
The probability of a woman delivering sextuplets is about one in 4 million. As sextuplets are usually born prematurely, the survival rate is low.
