Washington – APA. “President George W. Bush pledged U.S. support for Georgia’s territorial integrity and has been updated regularly on the crisis involving Russia in Georgia’s breakaway region of South Ossetia,” White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said in a statement, APA reports quoting Reuters.
She called all parties for an immediate ceasefire.
U.S. representative to UN Zalmay Khalilzad said the Security Council should call on Russia and Georgia to cease military operations and sit for talks.
“Violence should be stopped. This is the main thing now,” he said.
Zalmay Khalilzad said that Russia should immediately cease attacks on Georgia by ground forces, aircraft and missiles.
Republican presidential candidate John McCain said NATO Council should call an emergency meeting. The senator said that Russia should immediately cease military operations and withdraw its troops from the territory of sovereign Georgia.
