Richard Lugar made a statement in connection with the draft resolution adopted in the committee condemning Russian Government’s dangerous and provocative statements against Georgia’s territorial integrity and said that Georgia was an important friend of the US.
“Most of the young leaders of this country studied in America and pursue policy to join western institutions. Georgians contributed to the operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. This country assumed the brunt of delivering the Caspian oil to the west through Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipelineâ€, he said.
Chairman of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, co-author of the adopted resolution, democrat Joseph Biden also said that Moscow’s aggressive actions posed threat to the regional security and contradicted Russia’s interests.
