The prosecutor general said that the head of state was informed about it immediately after the incident.

“An operational group consisting of officers of the law-enforcement and prosecuting bodies was set up, and several suspects in the murder were arrested in one day,” he noted.

Garalov went on to add that the preliminary investigation into the journalist’s murder is coming to an end, and then the materials of the criminal case will be sent to court for consideration.

Strongly condemning crimes against journalists, the prosecutor general said that such incidents are not peculiar to our society.

“According to the information of Reporters Without Borders, 61 journalists were killed in the world last year, 41 journalists in 9 months of this year. It turns out that the European Parliament has to make a statement in each such case. The European Parliament’s statement on the journalist’s murder is biased. Azerbaijan cooperates with the European Court of Human Rights. Every crime gets legal assessment in Azerbaijan. No one can interfere in the internal affairs of Azerbaijan, including the European Parliament. Azerbaijan has an independent judiciary,” he said.
