On September 27, 2020, the Azerbaijani Army conducted a counter-offensive operation, thwarting another armed provocation by the Armenian Armed Forces, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Lieutenant General Karim Valiyev said, APA reports.
According to him, the 44-day Patriotic War, conducted under the leadership of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan, concluded with the complete victory of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the restoration of territorial integrity: "Based on the statement dated November 10, 2020, by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the President of the Russian Federation, and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, a ceasefire regime was declared, putting an end to the Garabagh conflict, which had lasted for nearly 30 years. According to the memorandum signed between the Republic of Türkiye and the Russian Federation on November 11, 2020, the Joint Monitoring Center, established as a result, contributed its part to ensuring peace for over three years. As a result of its joint activities, the center effectively fulfilled its duties and tasks, sparing no effort to ensure peace and stability in the Garabagh region."
The Chief of the General Staff noted that as a result of the anti-terrorism operations conducted in September 2023 to achieve full control over the Garabagh region of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the remnants of the Armenian Armed Forces and illegal Armenian armed formations were completely withdrawn from the country's territory: "Therefore, the tasks of the Joint Monitoring Center are considered to be completed. Based on the statement dated November 10, 2020, the process of complete withdrawal of the temporary stationed Russian Peacekeeping Contingent from the Garabagh Economic Region of the Republic of Azerbaijan has been initiated. In recognition of their conscientious and courageous service for the prosperity of peace and stability in the region, I extend special thanks to the military personnel of Türkiye and Russia, and wish them success in their future endeavors."
