Director of Shamakhy Astrophysical Observatory, associate member of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) Eyyub Guliyev told APA that such information is alien to science, noting that scientific authorities are not discussing this matter and all such reports are untrue.

“A solar eclipse is possible. But there’s no information that it would possibly cause the Earth’s surface to be shrouded in darkness. And I haven’t yet found such information in any NASA reports we regularly keep up with. All such reports are false and aimed at frightening people”, he said.

Namig Jalilov, chief of the Sun and solar-terrestrial relationship department of Shamakhy Astrophysical Observatory, said in a statement to APA said there’s no information in this regard on NASA’s official website although some other sites report about it. He stressed it’s improbable to predict solar activity.

“It can only be predicted 3-4 days before. It’s impossible to make long-term predictions, foretelling that something would happen in the Sun in December. I also read about it. But I’m skeptical of this information. I visit NASA’s website every day. I think it’s baseless to make this kind of predictions. Because the Sun is undergoing complex physical processes, and it’s impossible to foretell what would happen in December”, he stressed.

Namig Jalilov also said solar flares occur on a regular basis, noting that no one can say whether they would be directed toward the Earth or not and it’s very difficult to calculate: “I’m familiar with the information. It’s likely that someone has written in NASA’s name. I don’t believe NASA would have issued such an official statement”.

Note that, some websites, citing the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), had reported that half of the surface of the Earth will be shrouded in darkness for three days in December 2014. According to these reports, NASA official allegedly said there will be a solar storm because of which some part of the Earth will not be able to see the Sun.
