Rovnag Abdullayev: “Azerbaijan increased crude oil export by over 10 times”

As of September 1, Azerbaijan exported 384 mln tonnes of oil via oil pipelines, including 254.9 mln tonnes via Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC), 69.1 mln tonnes via Baku-Supsa pipeline, 39.1 mln tonnes via Baku-Novorossiysk and 20.5 mln tonnes via railway. During the same period, BTC transported 11.6 mln tonnes of Turkmen, 4.3 mln tonnes of Kazakh oil, said the SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev in his article published in Azerbaijan newspaper.

According to article, Azerbaijan’s position in the world as an oil and gas country is related to works carried out within the “Contract of the Century”, new renaissance in oil and gas sector: “Intensive measures taken during past 20 years caused dynamic growth of oil and gas production, the oil production increased by 5.6 times from 9 mln tonnes in 1997 to 51 mln tonnes in 2010. The highest indicator of oil production was recorded in 1941 (23,482,000 tonnes)”.

“Currently, up to 2.7 mln tonnes of oil and 1.5 bcm of associated gas on average are extracted from 80 wells in deepwater part of Chirag, Azeri and Guneshli fields. More significant fact is that, compared to late 90s, Azerbaijan increased crude oil export by over 10 times and SOCAR changed to the biggest oil exporter of the country. About 70% of crude oil exported from Azerbaijan belongs to SOCAR”.

Hydrocarbon stocks of ACG fields block doubled. On the eve of signing of the Contract, these stocks had been estimated at 511 mln tonnes of oil, 160 bcm of gas. Currently, extractable stocks of the block 1 bln tonnes oil and 350 bcm of gas. The block has produced 345 mln tonnes of oil and 100 bcm of gas since signing of the contract. For the period coming, oil production is expected to make 34-35 mln tonnes on average. A program has been developed at ACG for 2050 and further and this program focuses on keeping production stable and increase.

Abdullayev noted that Azerbaijan has exported 185 mln profit oil so far: “Profit oil of Azerbaijan increases year-on-year. During 6 months of 2014, Azerbaijan got 11.2 mln tonnes of profit oil (70%) from 16 mln tonnes. Revenues from profit oil are accumulated in SOFAZ. A certain part is directed to implementation of socio-economic projects, development of non-oil sector, improvement of welfare. Main part is saved for next generations”.
