Baku-APA. Bahrain police on Saturday announced it launched an investigation after they received a case of a child sustaining facial injuries following an unprovoked attack on security forces, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Police said that around 100 people assaulted them with firebombs, homemade guns and iron rods shots by the rioters in Wadyan village in Sitra.

"Police responded with proportionate and necessary force in order to defend themselves and restore order," said the Central Governorate Police, general director in a statement.

"Shortly after the incident, the operation room received a call from Salmaniya Medical Complex reporting that a child had been admitted who had apparently sustained superficial facial injuries. "

"The child was treated and admitted for observation," the official said, adding that they have launched an investigation adding that public prosecution was notified.

Anti-government groups including radicals have announced series of protests across the country ahead of the third anniversary since the unrest started in Bahrain on February 14, 2011.
