Baku – APA. “The Azerbaijani people welcomed the decision on holding of the European Games in Baku, 2015,” said vice president of the National Olympic Committee of the Azerbaijani Republic (AZMOC) Chingiz Huseynzadeh, APA reports. He said that the European Games would be useful for Azerbaijan in many aspects: “The necessary infrastructure must be established for this. The legislation must be brought to conformity with the world standards and the transport system of Baku should be reestablished for holding the games. As an organizer, we have the right to participate in all kinds of sports. The difference is always felt in the city, where the Olympic Games are held. I’m sure that Baku will start a new life after the European Games.”
Chingiz Huseynzadeh said prior to the voting at the congress of the European Olympic Committee in Rome, Italy’s capital, the Armenian side again acted as usual.
“Armenian Olympic Committee refused to participate in the voting. Out of 49 Olympic committees 48 participated in the voting. But it does not mean that Armenia will not participate in the European Games. They will make this decision themselves, we will ensure the security of all the participants,” he said.
Touching on the importance of the European Games, official of the National Olympic Committee said the event has laid the foundation for Baku’s hosting Summer Olympic Games in future.
