The head of state noted that the Azerbaijani authorities are not planning to privatize the State Oil Company (SOCAR) - its strategic asset amid decline in oil prices. "SOCAR will remain the state property, because it is a strategic asset," he added.
Asked whether the Russian companies will be able to take part in the recently declared large-scale privatization of assets in Azerbaijan, Aliyev said that Russia is a close friend of Azerbaijan. "We would be glad if they do. They have not yet appealed to us," he said.
