Azerbaijan has a high risk among the countries that will be exposed to the risks of global drought by 2040, Chairman of the Board of Azercosmos Samaddin Asadov said while announcing the “Electron platform to view the climate change from space”, APA-Economics reports.

S.Asadov stated that compared to 2017, 18% of glaciers in Greater Caucasus and Lesser Caucasus in Azerbaijan were lost.

He added that since 1993 the level of the Caspian Sea has decreased up to 2 meters, which 1.5 meters of it occurred in the last 5 years.

Speaking about the Gizilagac state reserve, Samaddin Asadov noted that according to the latest figures, 40% of the water basin here were lost: “ In general, 15% of Azerbaijan's territory is at risk of drought. It should be emphasized that the Goychay-Dashkasan region particularly faces the risk of drought."
