“Today, France dominates New Caledonia both politically and culturally. We want to restore the sovereignty of our country, to be free from French domination,” said Alex Loic Oue Toura, the Chairman of the Association of New Caledonian Artists during an event titled “Decolonization Dialogues: Legacy, Challenges and Development” that was jointly organized by Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Parliamentary Network, Baku Initiative Group, and NAM Youth Organization, APA reports.

He said that for this, decolonization policy should be widespread: “We are implementing some activities in this direction. National independence can be achieved through both force and negotiation. Today, Kanak youth are fighting for independence. There are 80,000 young people under the age of 30 in Kanak. Unfortunately, they have differences of opinion. Even though some of them want independence, some of them also wish the traditional system to remain. But if we want development, we must be free. Today, our goal is to network and strengthen relationships between people. We can reliably determine our future only in this way."
